We get around

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Dave here.  This is a small update to say that the folks over at Orange Lounge Radio kindly had me as a guest on this week’s show, episode 219.  Their show is one of the more established videogame shows, and was one of the original shows that really got me into podcasting.  OLR podcasts are divided into two parts because of their length.  Part A is available now and part B should be released by Thursday.

If you enjoy Press Start I think you will also enjoy this show.  If nothing else, this episode has a voice you’ll recognize.

Press Start Show for 4-18-07

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

Apologies for the posting delay. Now that Dave is no longer with us (at least for this week *wink wink*), the state of the podcast became confuzzled. In any case, this week’s show is more musically heavy than normal. I also recap Capcom Gamer’s Day and attempt to pronounce the word “Carcassonne” with much internal strife and difficulty.

Also on the show this week:
-why 2007 will be the Xbox Live Arcade’s Year of the Virtual Boardgame
-why beloved franchises Mega Man and Final Fantasy may have lost their luster after being whored out to the extreme in the last several years

Enjoy!

Press Start Show for 4-11-2007

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

This week is all sorts of crazy.  Not only did the co-host Dave make a triumphant return without ever really leaving, but Hunter Gough from Studio Hunty (finally) gave us a call and talked about all the neat concept games he has up on his excellent site.

And of course the news, some music, and even a bit of movie talk, where games are concerned.

Also, Justin trys to one-up Dave’s acapella postshow performance from our last show.  Fair warning.  Turn your speakers down.

My “other” projects

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

In the last update I posted a vague comment about new projects I was working on, projects that would seem familiar to those of you who listen to Press Start. Well today I finally got the ball rolling on the major one: the official GamesAreFun podcast.

I was put in charge of relaunching the site’s podcast, as it had been in a state of hibernation for almost a year. I can only assume my previous broadcasting experience with Press Start helped our Editor in Chief to make that decision. In any case, I’m quite excited about the opportunity to make the podcast flourish (if I can manage it) as this is my first opportunity in the professional sphere with something like this.

So if you want a double dose of me in any given week, you can add the GAF podcast to your playlist. It’s run in a roundtable discussion format, which is a slightly different flavor than Press Start. Enjoy.

Press Start returns April 11

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

The final 10 weeks of the show on KCPR begin Wednesday, April 11 at 10am. Just wanted to take this opporunity to give a preliminary thanks to all the fans and listeners we’ve had since the show began back in February 2005. The future of the show at this point is uncertain, but I’m working on some even bigger and better projects regarding podcasts and radio that should have more access while retaining parts of the flavor you know and love about Press Start. Those announcements will come in due time, of course.

However, in the meantime, we still have 10 more opportunities to cause some mayhem, so I hope you tune in. I’m not done with Dave yet. As always, you can listen to Press Start online by download at this site or at the other usual location.
